What Is the Ecclesiastical Program of Ministerial Candidacy?

The Ecclesiastical Program for Ministerial Candidacy (EPMC) is available to you if you are currently pursuing or have completed a Master of Divinity (MDiv) program at another seminary but seek ordination as a Minister of the Word in the Grace Bible Reformed Church. In coordination with the GBRC, Grace Bible Reformed University provides courses to be completed as part of the ordination process.

What Can I Do After Completing the EPMC?

This program seeks to holistically prepare participants for ministry and to meet the candidacy requirements established by Grace Bible Reformed Church. Our EPMC Curriculum Receive an orientation to the theology, history, and ministry of Grace Bible Reformed Church. In addition, vocational formation components prepare students with hands-on ministry experiences, mentorship, and reflection.

EPMC Courses & Credit Hours

Your individualized learning plan will include, at minimum, 9 credits.

On Campus & Online Students may complete the EPMC program in-person at our Florence Arizona campus or fully online.

Reformed Tradition

Grace Bible Reformed University is the official University of the GBRC and teaches from a thoroughly Reformed perspective.

Vocational Formation & Contextual Learning

Vocational formation components of the EPMC include a thorough psychological assessment, mentoring experiences, ministry practice, and a vocational formation reflection paper. These opportunities help you to strengthen your ministry experience and spiritual and personal formation prior to your ordination.


The EPMC takes two years to complete.

EPMC participants are not eligible to receive institutional financial aid from GBRU. Participants may seek financial support or scholarships from their own presbyteries' student fund or other sources at their own initiative. To apply for the EPMC, students must currently be enrolled in or have completed an MDiv degree from a seminary accredited by the Association for Theological Schools.

The ordination process typically happens following the completion of the MDiv program of Grace Bible Reformed University, or through the EPMC program for pastors in training who received their MDiv from another seminary. EMPC is for those students desiring to work in Grace Bible Reformed Church or start a church under GBRC leadership.
